Trying to think of words to describe this series is almost impossible. To even come close, you would have to combine the cuteness, and the creature elements of Pokemon, and then add a dash of morbid sense of humor, then a double dose of the Evanaglion complex. There what you have is Naru Taru. Aired . . .

Aww how cute....

That seems fun!!!

"Give me all your money, your keys and any drugs you got on you!!"

Chicken anyone???

Aww he is killing his first victim!!

And they say guns don't kill kids.....

This is what I call "Face Off" ...by the way that used to be a kids face.....

Walk softly and carry a big ass gun.....

"Ughh I need to lay off the Yu Gi Oh game....I'm seeing Harpie Lady now...!!!"

This is called "Shadow Star" in english. It was originally shown to kids. This series is too dark and gloomy and has too many disturbing scenes of violence and other things to be suitable for young children. Having said that, it's actually about "dragons" which as far as I can tell, represent earth spirits. I can't really compare it to much of anything I've watched before. I like it, but it's just a different genre of anime. For the most part it's dark and gloomy but does have some bright spots. Tthe character development and storyline are well done for the most part. Audio and video were very good. The subs were quite good, just some misspellings and awkward phrasing and a lack of punctuation. I liked this but can't reccomend this to everyone. You'll just have to decide yourself.

This is excellent anime taken from the NaruTaru manga (called Shadow Star by Dark Horse for some odd reason). The story begins when Shiina (pictured sitting - its Hina in the subtitles throughout the 13 episodes) on a trip to her grandparents finds an alien (nearly drowding herself in the process) and names it Hoshimaru (round star). Since Hoshimaru can fly and Shiina apparently hasn't any fear of heights he takes her for a ride high enough that she can see her grandparents entire island. Later she meeting other children who have alien partners. So far it sounds really cute and is, but don't be fooled. This anime contains many adult situations and has some of the most disturbing scenes I've seen in quite a while (murder and mayhem abound). I can't believe this was shown on kids TV in Japan !!! This anime does not even scratch the surface of the story in the manga which is much more complex. This anime is very well done, but is definitely NOT for children. As I've said previously the story follows the manga farly well concentating on Shiina rather on the discovery by the Japanese Government of the aliens. This is covered much more extensively in the manga. Hopefully there will be a second series which continue the story and flesh it out a bit more. The DVDs are very well done. The video and audio are perfect. The subtitles are very good other that getting some of the names wrong. This is well worth the money.
