Staff Review by NozomuMay 30, 2005
Kanzaki Hitomi is much like any other high school student. She runs track, suffers from extreme depression, and ends up on an alien planet after a failed suicide attempt. Okay, perhaps not that normal. Escaflowne: A Girl in Gaia is a retelling of the Escaflowne TV series. Fans of the series will either . . .

Not a great shot, but that's not his neck between his head and his body. Yay violence!

Man, Movie Hitomi is so much better looking than TV Hitomi... and especially manga Hitomi.

Allen in black leather... If I was a woman, that would be all the reason I would need to pick this up.

But being a guy, Merle is reason enough to pick this up.

Dilandu is the best villian ever. Other than the Joker, how many villians can you pick out by their twisted, evil smile?

If you have seen Escaflowne then you know what to expect. If not you can still watch this and fully enjoy it as it is it's own storyline seperate from the series. This OVa is simply perfect. It is absolutely beautiful, the story has enough to remind you of the series but is original enough to keep you from feeling like it has all been done before. Some new characters and some changes to the old ones give this film a different feeling than the world of Gaia we were introduced to in the series. It has action, mechs, and a hint of romance making it perfect for just about anyone. It also has an english dub which is flawless. At only $8 you would hate yourself if you didn't own this as soon as possible. Stop reading this and get to ordering!!!

What can i say that hasnt been said before. It is Escaflowne. The movie is just fabulos, it is more for anyone who hasnt seen the show, and has no intention in buying the whole set. Or if you are just a fan of the series and would like to expand your Eskaflowne knowledge. This is just a shortened version of the tv show, it has things going on at once, but all in all its great. They way she meets Van is different (in the show he fights a dragon and she goes with him when he is transported back) but the movie is a nice buy. The style of animation is a little different, but it is better. The music is picked extremley well, it is very fun too watch. The only problem was that they couldnt give you that much of a backdrop for the characters but you can still understand what is going on. A must buy for fans of mechs or fantasy (has a little of both)
